Designed for a young family and their neighborhood community of friends, this landscape transformed a large, underutilized yard into a place centered around outdoor living, play, and connection. An existing sports court, an important feature for the family's children, was retained and reimagined as part of a larger garden experience, replacing the surrounding grass and weeds with a lush, evolving landscape.

The design creates opportunities for the family to spend more of everyday life outside, with flowering gardens, gathering spaces, and thoughtful planting woven throughout the property. Vines were introduced around the sports court to soften its edges and integrate it into the landscape, while potted plantings bring layers of greenery and seasonal interest to the patio and outdoor living areas.

Tucked into a private corner of the garden, an outdoor bathtub offers a playful and practical addition for family life, a place to rinse off children after long afternoons of play before gathering for dinner outside. Flowering understory trees and layered plantings create a sense of privacy and enclosure, allowing the bath to feel hidden within the garden.

The result is a landscape designed not simply to be admired, but to be fully lived in—a place where children can roam, friends can gather, gardens can grow, and the everyday moments of family life can unfold outside.
